Annual Financial Plan and Budget Process

Your community, your budget

Some background on financial planning

All municipalities in B.C. must have a five-year financial plan (or budget) that is adopted annually, by bylaw, before the annual property tax bylaw is adopted. The financial plan must set out the following for each year of the planning period: the proposed expenditures by the municipality; the proposed funding sources; and the proposed transfers to or between funds.

Maintaining our financial sustainability

Core services, such as garbage collection and fire protection, and larger, multi-year projects associated with infrastructure replacement and investment are funded, for the most part part, by your tax dollars. The District strives to allocate its limited funds to the highest service and infrastructure priorities and that's where communities play a critical role.

Our budget process

The District’s Draft Financial Plan (2014 - 2018) was introduced at Council's March 3 meeting. At that meeting staff provided an overview of the proposed operating and capital budgets, the highlights of the work program, and the proposed tax increase for 2014. Council will deliberate the budget in late March and give final approval on April 28. Your involvement and input are encouraged as we plan for the future.
